Birthday in Edinburgh

My family got together for a very special occasion, my Dad's birthday. We all met in Edinburgh and had a fantastic time hanging out in the city, drinking whisky, chilling out in the Missoni Hotel and eating amazing food.

Here are some shots of the hall of the hotel, with crazy stripy carpets and red wall. The hotel is beautiful, the colours and shapes are just candy for the eye!

A little taste of the bedroom: curtains, bathrobes and bed throw...and the view of course. Perfectly located on the Royal Mile, the view of the grey skies and green grass was gorgeous.

We took a walk in the city, checking out the castle, hiding away from the rain in the super cool vintage shop Armstrongs (where I got this little bonnet and the cutest blue socks) and drying up around a nice cup of tea/ pint before a crazy night in Rhubarb.

Lyon - Part 2

The second part of my Lyon holiday, finally. Sorry for the delay, we had a big family reunion here in Glasgow and have been busy celebrating my Dad's birthday in amazing restaurants :)

Now for Lyon, on the Sunday we went to one of my favourite place: the flea market (Les Puces). It was about 30 degrees at 11 in the morning and the antic pieces were melting in the sun! Managed to find a cute little plate and some really cool retro coat hangers, a bargain.

All the usual sellers like to come for a glass of wine in this little Bistro where you can admire the Football scarves and big hams hanging from the ceiling.

This little shop was crazy, full of old books and creepy dolls. I didn't want to touch anything as it looked like it might all fall like a card castle!

This dress is one of my favourite summer dresses. I got it in TopShop 2 years ago and it's a perfect fit. My gran once told me "You have to always stay think enough to fit in this dress, it's so nice!" Thanks Mamy Pink!

This bike was so cool, the tyres were made of wood, it was so old! Would have liked it for myself but I found out that vintage wooden bikes can be very expensive!

Lyon (Part 1)

Hello darling Borrowers. Mommy E and I were both on holiday, sorry for the absence from the blog. But we are back now, Mommy E all tanned from Sonar and myself slightly less tanned but relaxed from holidays at home.

Spent a few days in France with Michael and my family to celebrate my birthday a couple of weeks late.

It was very hot and I was glad to have my new Sessun dress, very light, perfect for the sun. It's funny, a couple of weeks ago I was saying how much I loved this summer's Sessun collection but how overpriced it was. And then, all my favourite items were on sale half price in UO. Bingo. I ended up getting the matching pink playsuit as well.

We had a fabulous lunch in an amazing restaurant. Check these out! And they were AFTER dessert, yep little treats with the coffee. Yumster.

Oh also, check out the quality of the photo...and why is that? Because I got a new camera for my birthday! My own Canon EOS 300D. It's brilliant, especially on close ups of food!

Happy Monday Borrowers!! Yes I survived the first World Cup weekend, but it wasn't easy...Although I managed to get a good deal: one game = one post. I think it's fair enough :) I've got about 4 posts overdue already!

I thought I would take a little break before showing you Essaouira to get back to more outfit related posts.

First of all, mega kudos to my super Mommy E for her amazing outfit + post. Can't wait for our July reunion, we will be making dindins and listening to Jazz, dancing in the kitchen. I'm listening to Joshua Redman just now. Also at the end, a SHOP update!

Rhododendrons are my favourite, they are one of the reasons I love Scotland. Come May and everywhere in the countryside and city centre you can see bushes or forests of wild rhodo.

Doodletonguing is a multiple tongue technique used to facilitate smooth, fast legato playing on the slide trombone. Its main use has been in the performance of jazz.

I have had to listen to a lot of jazz shows at work recently. Just by pure aural osmosis you pick up loadsa tit bits of info. Did you know that Louis Armstrong's nickname Satchmo is a shortened version of his original nickname - Satchelmouth? Apparently called so because he's mouth looked like a Satchel? Well I never and Wtf?

I'm gonna start caling Margaux, "Clutchbabo" - why I hear you scream? Cos she has a Bouche like a Clutch Bag of course! So my mind has been finally tuned into the jazz. I even started cracking up in the supermarket when I noticed you could be Loose Jazz Apples. One bit and you'll be banging out a tune on the old joanna like Duke Ellington... Be bap b bo doo wap!

If I could forever wear Nana high waisted, tapered pants I would. Pure love 'em. Something about sherbert lemon colour in the summer too - winner. Last season gladiators still serving me well until they fall to pieces. I predict this will happen half way thru my holiday in Barcelona next week. Watch this space for holiday snaps and bare feet. Also this necklace wish kinda just looks like a rope is in fact made out of recycled shop tags... tried to find a photo of the things on the tinternet but alas no. They are half metal cone thingys sprayed yella and strung together. It's from Cos. It's nice cos it is entirely made from the shops surplus. Captain Planet!

Is it a monster? Is it Pat Butcher? Naw it's a Wild Gorilla! Me and Will spotted it in Notting Hill! Naw japes blud!

Morocco part 2 - Les Souks and La Mamounia

More from Marrakech. In the afternoon, we decided to hit the Souks, those crazy markets where you get lost and are "guided" by nice guys to their "friend's shop" and end up buying more than you would have liked! But we are not silly Gazelles, and got some really good deals. Result: 4 scarves, 1 leather studded satchel, 1 straw hat, some spices, argan oil, rose tea, ambre cubes, 2 bowls, one mirror, 2 candle holders...and that's only in Marrakech! Morocco is shopping paradise, but I only had a small bag so had to be reasonable.

Also introducing: Mathilde. We have been friends for 19 years and still laugh as hard as day 1. She's so beautiful all the Moroccan guys wanted to marry her.

Spices, Chech after dying process, carpets...so many colours, textures, smells...

We stopped on this square, right in the Medina in a lovely place called Le Cafe des Epices where we had Moroccan salad and a bit of freshness...

To relax after the heat and craziness of the souks we headed to the Palace La Mamounia. We had no idea how luxurious the place would be (I suppose "Palace" should have given us a hint...). It was absolutely gorgeous, 3 beautiful men opened the doors for us, looking like they were straight our Aladin or The Arabian Nights with white veal and gold belts. The waiters looked much posher than us and we felt a bit bad in our sandals and jeans. But after one mojito (or more like two since I managed to spill the first one...can't take ma anywhere!) we forgot all about it and devoured our grilled almonds.

The place is surrounded by a park of palm trees, bougainvilliers and orange trees. It was redecorated by Jacques Garcia. Churchill spent his holidays there and this is where the Moroccan King stays when he is in Marrakech.

Morocco part I - Marrakech

Hello Little Borrowers! I am back, after a wonderful trip to Morocco last week. I met my other Mum Mit in Marrakech where we spent 2 fabulous days, before heading West to Essouira on the coast.

On the first day, we decided to take a refreshing walk in the Jardin Majorelle, the garden, designed by Jacques Majorelle in 1947, was then bought over by Pierre Berge and Yves Saint Laurent as a present for the city of Marrakech and a sanctuary for them. YSL loved to spend time there and get some inspiration, I can understand why, the place is gorgeous, full of palm trees, cactus and pretty birds. The walls and the one building in the garden are blue, which clashes beautifully with the green and yellow of the plants.

The place is peaceful and you forget that you are in busy, hot and dusty Marrakech. In the bassin, the waterlillies offer a little bit of shade to the frogs and turtles.

In the middle of the garden is a memorial for YSL. And a bit further is a little room with posters of the Happy New Year cards he used to sent, always inspired by the garden, full of colours, on the theme of LOVE and...his dog!

Clothes-wise, I had to think about heat and respect of the culture, which is why I bought this maxi dress before I left and only took longish skirts and nothing too revealing!

I will tell you about our crazy afternoon in the souks and aperitif in the Palace La Mamounia in another post, then If you behave well I will show you Essaouira and of course, my shopping ;)

The Museum of Everything

This weekend was the 10th anniversary of the Tate Modern. As a celebration they had a mini festival and group installation exhibition, No Soul For Sale. Went to check it oot with Gracie Cheeks and her Auntie MJ. The turbine hall had been turned into an adult sized play pit. Artists from all over the world had about 2meters squared to do what ever they wanted. Amazing pictures, stories, videos, performances... but the best bits were the tactile interactive parts... A forest of paper ribbons and the whirlwind snowstorm of stickers saying LOCAL ARTIST.

Rather hooked on the double jacket combo at the moment. Last week I was hot for denim/leather, this week it's a love affair between the denim and the vintage woolen Adidas jacket. This button up woolen Adidas jacket is from late 60's and is my single most treasured item of clothing. I have never seen anything like it. And 100% hooked on the pattern pile up. Lots of different tartans and stripes on overload!

SNOWSTORM DES ARTISTES!!

Made friends with the little people. More museums should have stuff of this ilk. Sometimes museums are stuffy and awkward and people feel shy to use them. But with something like this everybody loses their inhibitions, you get involved and the museum feels like it's as much yours as everyone else's.

Pigs They Tend To Wiggle When They Walk

Once again, a Mommy Reunion in London!! This time I (Mommy M) went down to London with Michael and the boys to see Michael's favourite band, Pavement (2nd time afte Glasgow last week, it was RAD) and of course met Mommy E beforehand!

REUNION

We met up in Brixton and had super sushis in Fujiyama before heading off to the gig. Mommy E was looking well hot in her denim + leather combo. I took the newly arrived Raccoon tail out, it's so soft it's like having a pet attached to the belt! Great inspiration raccoons seen on The SF Style.

Without planning it, our shoes were absolutely matching! Pretty mind blowing, I know.

With loads of curve ball features, music and gig reviews and hot tips on emerging artists. It's simply unmissable for music heads. New feature Everywhere Else is a one stop shop for all sorts of musical gizzzm from all over the internet. Then there is a brilliant interview with Ikonika here, a super review of Caribou's latest album Swim here and they have recently featured the super bad wicked...
Rudi Zygadlo.
A gent that we featured a while ago too. You see him here. You see him there. We featured him for his well put together look (see photos above) but he has just released his debut album, "Great Western Laymen" on Planet Mu and it's an absolutely magnificent debut. It's unlike anything I have ever heard before. Imagine dancefloor worthy basslines intertwined with angelic choir-like vocals and everything else in between. Mary Anne Hobbs of Radio 1 gets all breathless any time she plays his stuff. I'm not going to go into any more detail here because I think you should make up your own. Here at BORO we are right music heads. Marguax went to see Pavement last night. I am thoroughly excited about heading off the electronic music festival in Barcelona, Sonar, to see the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Nosaj Thing (especially his live visual show - link below) and the list could go on & on & on & on & on. Multicolour Black Eye

Bonjour fellow bloggers. I am just gonna take this moment to say hats off to my fellow BOROer Mamam Margaux because she has been looking fierce. Margaux is hotter than a French kiss in Paris and harder than a Glasgow kiss in Scotland.

Got a wee birthday party to attend tomorrow. The day time is a fancy dress punt down the river in Oxford (photos to follow), but this is what I'm gonna be sporting for the evening do.

Finally got myself a pair of heeled desert boots. I was searching for a nice nude/beige pair and then when it come down to crunch time I found myself leaving with a black pair. What do you know? I have been wanting to team them with some stripey socks and then I thought why not go the whole multicoloured way. This is a dress I found in a vintage shop, the lady in the shop said it was a theatre costume... I like to think it was from Fiddler On The Roof... any other suggestion? A lovely dress maker I know, Avelina, was kind enough to shorten it for me, take off the sleeves and give it a scoop neck. Before it was rather dowdy, but I could not resist the print. I've also wanted a cropped tuxedo jacket for ages and found this one for a tenner.

Hidden Gardens

Spent the weekend enjoying the last of Gi, Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art. Our first stop was Tramway, were the artist Christoph Buchel's work, entitled Last Man Out Turn Off Lights is a huge, realistic sort of prison/ work camp, with half a plane in it. Crazy. And worth seeing!

Tramway has got this lovely garden at the back, called the Hidden Gardens where you can relax in the sun. It's a sort of sanctuary. This black tunnel I am in is the work of the artist James Yamada and it called Our Starry Night. You get in the tunnel the lights turn on outside depending on your personality. It's lovely at night.

You saw this dress already a couple of weeks ago, but doesn't it look so different with yellow tights?

Oh and to the question: Oh My God are these Swedish Hasbeens...the answer is YES!

My friend Ross was very impressed by the Hasbeens. He was looking cool in his vintage Eagles tshirt and his cardi from a charity shop in Melbourne.

Hubble Date

Went on a Hubble Date at the IMAX Cinema. It was fantastic. 3D Glasses are definitely the best accessory! Hubble 3D is a documentary about...well Hubble and the Universe. It's absolutely brilliant, makes you feel all small and funny to know that the Earth is only a tiny wee thing compared to what's out there.

Did I mention it was narrated by the one and only Leonardo Di Caprio...I always knew we would be reunited somehow!

Everything I am wearing, apart from my shoes, is under £10 and it makes me very proud. The shoes, are Marc Jacobs. They were a present to go work in San Francisco. I wore them straight away when I arrived, and it rained for 2 weeks! The blue is now tainted green on the sides...I try to look after them now.

Office Outfits pt 2. Camouflage from the waist down.

Work outfits a go-go. After work met my bruv and went to see Avatar, he had to offer to pay for my ticket AND my dinner just so he could have a pal to go with. Ahhh bless! Totally digging the Nav'i's King and Queens outfits gonna fashion myself a summer festival outfit a bit like the dad's feather shoulder puffs here... watch this space). All night he kept making cowboy noises and challenging me to a quick draw. Aye he is a wee bit spesh but he also claimed I looked like a ranch rustler...

Clashing colours and clashing patterns are HOT on the cards this summer.

Went to see an amazing Quilt exhibition at the V&A. Quilts through the ages 300 years ago all the way up to Tracey Emin and even a very thought evoking quilt made by the inmates of Wormwood Scrubs prison. It has inspired me to make a quilt for my niece/nephew that's on the way. Went back home and collected loads of scraps of material, my dad's old pyjamas, my old dresses, mum's hankies, brother's halloween outfits... This quilt is gonna be off the hoooook.

After I left the exhibition I couldn't stop noticing A>C>E floor tiles of the V&A museum.

Taking the Goat on a Ride

Took the Goat for a little ride after work today. Found a pretty lane just round the corner from the flat. The Goat was very happy. And so was I (as shown on the above creepy photo).

Got these lovely tights on vente-privee.com, had to wait a good 4 weeks for them to arrive but it was well worth it! And then, I dropped Michael's bike on my leg, they are both scarred forever. Makes me look tough though.

Bought this gorgeous jacket last year, it's Agnes b. but I got it in a charity shop for cheap: bargain hunter! It's so soft it's like being in my pyjamas. (Apologies for the granny tights look...)

Who's a lucky girl then? Me! I was spoilt rotten with not 1, but 2(!) visits from Maman Margaux and Mikey.

 After a Greek salad in Camberwell's most delightful cafe, Johansson's (read a review here) and some cryptic crosswords we went home for some photos and to do what we do best: EAT MORE. Mommy Ele made us an amazing fish in spicy breadcrumbs and almonds - we should have taken photos. Yumster. Gave us some energy for our night out to see Rudi Zygadlo at the UK's No 1 small club, Corsica Studios. Read about Rudi and listen to his music in a previous post here. Back in Glasgow after amazing Easter holidays and the sun is shining! It was so nice to see Mommy E in London, walk on the beach in Brittany and eat with a view on the Eiffel Tower at the Palais de Tokyo. Back to reality now!

I was wearing this same tshirt the other day for casual travelling but today I made it look a bit smarter for work with my Vanessa Bruno trousers that I got 5 years ago to work at the French Consulate in San Francisco, had to look smart!

This little beauty giraffe brogues are one of my best bargain hunt, got them on sale in UO last year and managed to treat them well enough to wear them again this year.

Managed to steal a couple of shots of Michael's cool look while he was taking our bikes for a ride! The Goat and the Elephant are unseparable.

They came from Glasgow.

They saw the Irving Penn exhibition.

They conquered three giant pastries.

Margaux Mum and Michael Cat were flying off for a wee holiday in Belle Isle so they stopped in London for Sushi at Koyto, grotesque Italian pastries at Princi and the Irving Penn at the National Portrait Gallery. Michael looked dashing as usual. Margaux was looking cool and casual for travel. This is a shirt I picked up second hand, vintage Jaeger - comes with it's own wee bow.

Today was the first day where the sunshine was actually warm, it was lovely. I had a few errands to run, like buying paint, so my friend Allan and I took a walk to the paint shop and found these amazing old houses on the way.

Perfect day to show off my new Sonia Rykiel for H&M stuff (some of them) like this dress (that I altered myself, very proud) and beret.

It's a great feeling to know that Spring isn't far now...and that I can finally paint the bathroom!

Doudoune and LQD

So I chose the wrong to strip off my clothes and show my dress. It started to rain midway which you will be able to see in the last photos.

After many many slagging offs of the Doudoune or Bubble jacket, I found myself wearing the one I bought to go skiing. One reason: it's bloody warm! My sister will surely find it very funny...

Today was a special day: SONIA RYKIEL for H&M and Omg the collection is amazing! What's even better is that people in Glasgow don't seem to care/ know about SR so it was all for Margaux. While in France my mom was fighting women in minx coats (2 of them fell on the floor when the doors opened hahaha). It ended up in a swapping game: the stripey dress for the yellow jumper, the black shorts for the stripey jumper...

I got loads of stuff which I will show you very soon.

This morning we went to see the exhibition "What You See Is Where You're At" at the Modern Art Galleries in Edinburgh. They were showing all their collection, including some brilliant Martin Boyce and Charles Avery.

I wore this lovely vintage Aztec skirt that I got on Etsy.

I love these ankle boots that I got in France about 2 years ago, I just got them repaired and can't stop wearing them.

The beautiful landscape in the garden is called Landform Ueda and was designed by Charles Jencks.

Oyster card, check. London A-Z, check. Camera, ipod, check. Good but slim book for the tube, check. Keys, oh buggar... where are my keys? All pockets empty, check. Where the frig...? Ah yes... in the front door. Just where I left them. Note to self: STOP DOING THIS!! Now, after a couple weeks of walking and exploring this here city, all I need is a job. Oh yeah, and my shoes re-heeled!

This city has an amazing cross section of people and cultures - inspiration could come from every corner. However this week I have mostly been ogling the tiles and mosaics at the tube stations. So far my favourite is the elaborate mosaics of Tottenham Court Rd (pictures to come) - but this weeks outfit was inspired by the colour scheme of the tiles at Kings Cross (above). I'm a sucker for a simple block colour print. Slurp. Unfortunately all the colours are a bit washed out here... see the chictopia blog for colours in all their glory! Faux fur is lilac - I repeat LILAC!

Super props to Mummy M in her last post. That braid is inspired! And Ze boys look amaZing. Lock up your daughters.

As I am a bit late for a clothes post today, I would like to shine a light on something that makes me happy: Childrens books. I have an huge collection of them and everytime I go home to France I read the ones I was reading when I was a child over and over again .
I find them brilliant, they are clever and funny and the drawings stay in your mind forever!
For Christmas I got a few new ones in French, and I also got the complete collection of Roald Dahl!!! I am reading them just now and loving it :)
I wanted to share with you some pictures of these new books:

Boucle D'or et les Sept Ours Nains, Emile Bravo

Des Nouvelles de Mon Chat is the story of an Elephant who thinks he is a cat, he finds a little cat fiancee and they do cat things together.

Kuma Kuma is a beautiful Japanese book, all in simplicity, about a boy and his bear friend Kuma Kuma. He says things like "I entered the house and it had a little smell of bear". In the summer Kuma Kuma likes to roll on the floor in the sunbeams. Aw.

Boucle d'Or et les Sept Ours a Nain is a hilarious tale that mixes Goldie Locks, Snow Whites, Red Riding Hood and all the classics in one super tale where the bears are freaking out!

I highly recommend them for yourself or for a lovely present. I am sure they are all translated.

I'm always looking out for new ones. What's your favourite childrens story?

Yesterday started with a very late brunch in our favourite breakfast place in Glasgow, Heart Buchanan. They make eggs benedict like nowhere else, plus the staff are very friendly and even when I am full I end up buying a little cake for later...

The weather has been very mild this weekend, a change from the -10 of last week! It means I was able to wear this little jacket that I got in the sale. £20, bargain. The problem is, when you buy something in the high street shops like River Island, you see people with the same thing as you all the time. In the 10min walk from the flat to HB I saw two girls with this jacket, haha. I'm glad I was wearing it with personal accesories like my favourite sailor hat, this scarf made by my Gran Mami Pink and this new Max C handbag I got for £20. Bargain again.

The day finished with some pogo stick exercise in the staircase! Not the most practical when wearing a playsuit...

I got this playsuit in a vintage shop and got it altered, it's very cute, makes me feel like a guest in the film The Party.

The beautiful necklace I am looking at is a Christmas present from my parents. I adore it, it looks like audio tape. You can play with it and it never looks the same. It's from French designers House of Done.

Shine a light on: Jarvis Cocker's 6 Music Show

Last Sunday, Jarvis Cocker made his muchly anticipated debut on 6 Music. You can only imagine he'd have a pandora's box full of both stories and records. The man himself said, "It is my intention to fill these hours with as much dodgy opinion, crackpot theories, hare-brained schemes and beautiful, beautiful music as is humanly possible". And that he did.
Being a radio geek, I was nervous about this show. Nervous for 2 reasons. 1. Sunday afternoon is a sublime slot and possibly one where you can have the most creative reign. Unlike the breakfast shows, you are not obliged to be all alive aliveo, or worker friendly for the midday slot, or brain engaging for the commuters at drive time. Sunday afternoon is quite possibly one of the few times that you tune into a specific show with all your attention. After all, sunday afternoon is pipe and slippers time in your favourite armchair. 2. Was it only gonna be "we were Brit Pop kids, but now we're parents" friendly? Eeek - never did Brit Pop, wasn't even an indie kid. Was too busy listening to LL Cool J. And I definitely ain't a mum yet.

But what Jarvis Cocker delivered was a supremely slick, delightful packaged, two hour showcase. Highlights include:

The entire opening of the show & the Tim Rose song "Snow".
Stephen Fry reading a story by Dave Eagleman from his book "Sum - Forty Tales from the Afterlife."
An interview with John Hilcoat, director of The Road. Also music from the official score by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis.
Shirley Bassey's "Diamonds Are Forever"

Maral and I had a business lunch today for an aural venture we are hoping to collaborate on in the future. Unfortunately we got sidetracked by test driving our new charity shop purchases. I think we both got clothes envy for the other's purchases. This black tuxedo shirt Maz picked up made me dribble with desire. She's also partial to a bit of gypsy chic and nabbed this bright blue shawl. In her first look, Gypsy Rodeo, she went for the buttoned up looked (which we both adore - brute chic all the way), topped off with the shawl and her favourite cowboy neck tie thingymabob. What the heck are these things called? Answers on a postcard comment blog please... Her cute little boot neck tie is a gift from her aunty's American holiday. Dang, I want one. She looks like she is returning from the cattle market and is off for a quick bourbon on the rocks with her ranch husband, before heading out to the rodeo after party. Saddle up and ride that pony!

Outfit number 2 - the penguin. Maral also had the super bad black and white braces which go supremely with the tuxedo top. It works as a look on it's own but I had this bow tie which we added into the mix. Obviously you are meant to tie it up - but we left it undone and floppy. Victorian school boy style. In fact come to think of it she's like some modern Dorian Grey character.

During our recky I got this long camel coat and wannabe trilby. Think inspiration for these looks all came from Coco Avant Chanel. The trousers Mummy M found in the sale rack at Topshop. Just like my Mummy M, I love a good bargain. She knows my love of high waisted too well & brought them over. I didn't even try the bad boys on. It was love at first sight. Plus they were only £12.

Got this little origami in the sale the other day, oh I love a good Bargain! I love the sale, I usually try to get a good designer pair of shoes or bag half price. My best buys ever were my pair of Gucci black stiletos with the two metallic G at the back. Gorgeous, and I still wear them 6 years after buying them! What's your best bargain?!

I think it's a good deal! Saucisse the sausage dog thinks so too.

I met Maral (up-and-coming stylist) on her lunch break for a steaming hot bowl of wanton soup. In order to work up our appetites we went on a charity shop recky around Summertown, Oxford. We both got some cheeky steals. I shall try to incorporate them into the next few posts. When I met her I knew I had to take a wee fotae. Take note ladies; the double scarf! Smart little move to tweak two scarves together eh? I love the way the scarves clash with each other, just as much as they do with the coat, but they clash so well together that they come right back to the other side of working really well together. Am I making any sense? Sure there is a more concise way to say that but it's 2am and I need ma bed! Took my cape out on it's first test drive today. Top marks for snugness even in the -1C tempratures.

swish, splash, i was taking a bath

Went on a wee fashion outing yesterday - the International Day of Swishing. In theory Swishing is a posh clothes swap - you know the game, "One man's trash is another man's treasure". Or one woman's fashion faux pas is another woman's find. But in reality swishing is an elbow's out, spit at the ready, full on fashion fist fight. Don't get me wrong - I went home with a few treasures, but I also went home with a nasty taste in my mouth about how some of the ladies behaved at the event. There's no doubt about it that if I'd been a bit more rough and pushy I would have got some even better tit bits - but c'mon, I believe ladies should behave like ladies. Never should a lady forget her manners or etiquette if only to get her greasy paws on a new frock (unless it's this Balmain frock, but that's another universe away.)

My friend Grace was filming the event for her eagerly anticipated Eco blog, so when it's all edited together I'll pop it on here. There's a point system set out for designer, vintage and high street. You trade in your items and receive tokens, which you then exchange for clothes. Picked up a few choice things, but overall I mostly got fancy dress items for a future Noah's Arc party. In fact , the jacket I am wearing as a dress here was not only picked up for a penguin costume, but was also a last ditch attempt to use up my tokens and escape the scrum.

It took a whole 24 hours, a few glasses of wine and one tearful viewing of the recent animation Up before I felt ready again to even look at the clothes I got from the Swish. Thank goodness I had my darling friend Maral on hand to help. Maral is one of those gals that does not follow fashions - she always looks individual due to her eagle eye for unique items. Her outfits never look cliched or over-thought, she can look like she just threw it together and it still looks FAB. Furthermore she knows what styles and shapes suit her, which is simply the smartest way to always look smart.

I was showing her this double breasted jacket that is a few sizes too big for me whilst we were discussing the possibility of wearing it as a dress, and before I knew it she has whipped off her own belt and hat and was cinching my waist and crowning my head. Another thing that Maral possesses is a playful attitude with clothes - she's always up for mixing and matching and trying things out so I asked if she fancied helping me put an outfit together. She swiftly came up with the double belt concept and told me to whip out my garish gold alligator heels. Not only a savvy and slick stylist, but also a creative cameraman I think you'll agree. If I can twist her arm I hope to get a wee future feature on her - in the meantime these snaps will have to do. Hats off to Marijan the Iranian beauty!

Hello! Happy New Year everyone :) Hope you all had great holidays!

Time for the blog to stop being on holiday, which is why there is quite a lot of photos and photos of...the SNOW! It snowed a lot here and was so cold I couldn't go out without my furry gear! I thought maybe animal print tights would keep me warm, I was wrong...

Glasgow looks beautiful under the snow, I wish it could last for 3 months...The streets look like a Dickens novel setting, mid 19th century people walking on the roads, I was expecting horses to come trotting next to me!

My feet were so cold, despite the angora socks, that I almost envied ugly girls in ugly uggs. I sais ALMOST, the snow hasn't froze my fashion brain yet.

BIG snow day! 10 inches overnight. Took indulgently long walk home from work through it with Bon Iver loud in my headphones. Brrrrrilliant!

Think I am going through my goth phase a little late in life. Think it might be inspired by my new boots. Saw them on Dylana over at Nana in Wonderland - check her out she's got some hella good styles.
