Doodletonguing

doodletonguing

Doodletonguing is a multiple tongue technique used to facilitate smooth, fast legato playing on the slide trombone. Its main use has been in the performance of jazz.

I have had to listen to a lot of jazz shows at work recently. Just by pure aural osmosis you pick up loadsa tit bits of info. Did you know that Louis Armstrong's nickname Satchmo is a shortened version of his original nickname - Satchelmouth? Apparently called so because he's mouth looked like a Satchel? Well I never and Wtf?

I'm gonna start caling Margaux, "Clutchbabo" - why I hear you scream? Cos she has a Bouche like a Clutch Bag of course! So my mind has been finally tuned into the jazz. I even started cracking up in the supermarket when I noticed you could be Loose Jazz Apples. One bit and you'll be banging out a tune on the old joanna like Duke Ellington... Be bap b bo doo wap!

If I could forever wear Nana high waisted, tapered pants I would. Pure love 'em. Something about sherbert lemon colour in the summer too - winner. Last season gladiators still serving me well until they fall to pieces. I predict this will happen half way thru my holiday in Barcelona next week. Watch this space for holiday snaps and bare feet. Also this necklace wish kinda just looks like a rope is in fact made out of recycled shop tags... tried to find a photo of the things on the tinternet but alas no. They are half metal cone thingys sprayed yella and strung together. It's from Cos. It's nice cos it is entirely made from the shops surplus. Captain Planet!

Is it a monster? Is it Pat Butcher? Naw it's a Wild Gorilla! Me and Will spotted it in Notting Hill! Naw japes blud!

And this weird black hole shaped like a man. It's like he just got beamed to another galaxy or sum sheeet!

Playlist:
Oriol - Joy FM
Belleville Triplets - Belleville Rendezvous
James Blake - Air and Lack of.

James Blake new favourite at the moment. Stripped back production of some sparse dubstep with warped vocals in a homage to RnB. So utterly simply but so captivating. Check him. Dummy interview here. Dummy review of EP here. James Blake myspace here. Listen to song below.... do it!

Pigs They Tend To Wiggle When They Walk

Once again, a Mommy Reunion in London!! This time I (Mommy M) went down to London with Michael and the boys to see Michael's favourite band, Pavement (2nd time afte Glasgow last week, it was RAD) and of course met Mommy E beforehand!

REUNION

We met up in Brixton and had super sushis in Fujiyama before heading off to the gig. Mommy E was looking well hot in her denim + leather combo. I took the newly arrived Raccoon tail out, it's so soft it's like having a pet attached to the belt! Great inspiration raccoons seen on The SF Style.
Without planning it, our shoes were absolutely matching! Pretty mind blowing, I know.

Details of stripes and polka dots and tartan and fur and denim and leather...and an animal creeping in my jeans!

Shine A Light On: - Rudi Zygadlo and the Dummy tip-off

Now then, now then, do you like music? Are you one of those people that is always on top of fresh and inspiring new music? Well maybe you will like the online music publication DUMMY. It's a corker. With loads of curve ball features, music and gig reviews and hot tips on emerging artists. It's simply unmissable for music heads. New feature Everywhere Else is a one stop shop for all sorts of musical gizzzm from all over the internet. Then there is a brilliant interview with Ikonika here, a super review of Caribou's latest album Swim here and they have recently featured the super bad wicked...
Rudi Zygadlo.
A gent that we featured a while ago too. You see him here. You see him there. We featured him for his well put together look (see photos above) but he has just released his debut album, "Great Western Laymen" on Planet Mu and it's an absolutely magnificent debut. It's unlike anything I have ever heard before. Imagine dancefloor worthy basslines intertwined with angelic choir-like vocals and everything else in between. Mary Anne Hobbs of Radio 1 gets all breathless any time she plays his stuff. I'm not going to go into any more detail here because I think you should make up your own. You can listen to it on Rudi's myspaz. Read my review at Dummy. Or buy it over at itunes. Or listen on the video below.

Here at BORO we are right music heads. Marguax went to see Pavement last night. I am thoroughly excited about heading off the electronic music festival in Barcelona, Sonar, to see the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Nosaj Thing (especially his live visual show - link below) and the list could go on & on & on & on & on. Any of recommendations of who you guys are listening to at the moment are welcomed with open ears!

This Weeks Playlist:
Rudi Zygadlo - Resealable Friendship
Caribou - Sun
Nosaj Thing - IOIO

Good Twin // Bad Twin

Who's a lucky girl then? Me! I was spoilt rotten with not 1, but 2(!) visits from Maman Margaux and Mikey.

After a Greek salad in Camberwell's most delightful cafe, Johansson's (read a review here) and some cryptic crosswords we went home for some photos and to do what we do best: EAT MORE. Mommy Ele made us an amazing fish in spicy breadcrumbs and almonds - we should have taken photos. Yumster. Gave us some energy for our night out to see Rudi Zygadlo at the UK's No 1 small club, Corsica Studios. Read about Rudi and listen to his music in a previous post here. Check back soon for another outfit post and review with the man himself....

Mikey still looking fresh after a night's travel.

Rudi Zygadlo

Right then. The time has come for The Book Of Right-On to shine a light on somebody that is really pushing our buttons right now. His name is Rudi Zygadlo. Aka Rudi-dog. Not only is his style tip top, but he is also currently producing tons of hella good music. He has just been signed by Planet Mu and has been marked as the-next-big-ting by the music (wo)men in the know. Fashion first, music later.

Rudi's style is suspended somewhere between the upper echelons of old Scottish gentry and the lower levels of a well kept skip rat. His classic dapper chapper attire is seamlessly mixed in with a more modern laid back leisure wear; tailor made hats and fancy shoes sit happily alongside sweatpants and hoodies. He has previously credited his Dad as one of his style icons - a large part of his wardrobe has been half-inched (for you overseas - that's cockney rhyming slang for pinched aka stolen) from his old man's closet. Also, as you can see he accessorizes well, a key necklace is a must-have. In fact his fashion sense is not unlike his music. If you want to pigeon hole it, it's some kinda alternative electronic music, but then again, it's also like nothing you've ever heard before. Check out Rudi's Myspaz to hear it. But as I was saying, akin to his style, his music mixes the classical with the cutting-edge. His song Missa Per Brevis (meaning short mass) has a choral-like ephemeral quality to it, but cutting between that is a thumping, club-heavy bassline and some scratching that even a measles sufferer would be proud of.

He is named after two Russian ballet dancers.
You have to listen to
his stuff for yourself.

Here is one of his
mixes he did live for Mary Anne Hobbs on her Radio One show, it's at about 1hour 20mins into the show.

Rudi: "Well, here goes, enigma shattered"

Hat: Originally, McLaren Hatters, Glasgow/Edinburgh. From Starry Starry Night, Glasgow

Shirt: Daddy's shirt. Tinderfell Originals
Hoody: American Apparel
Leather Jacket: Can't quite read the label. From Watermelon, Glasgow
Belt: Watermelon, Glasgow

the things that geeks are made of

Apparently wearing socks with your tights denotes totally geekdom. This is law according to my new work mates. They just don't get fashion duh! Well, to be frank (who is frank?) this brogue and sock combo is more of a blister prevention system than some kinda trailblazing trendsetting. And it's just dead cosy ya get me? Ooooooh yeah and found these earrrings in a junk shop. Love a bit of chunky scally gold.
This is just a wee post before me and my pops go on a flying visit to see my god babies in France. Margauxface is also going to be Franco-side but she's hitting up the stylish gay paris and will probably be found supping on lattes & scoffing gateaux avec Garance DorĂ©! Whereas I will be deep in rural france watching Labrynth and picking my nose with these guys.  I've sent Mummy M a memo saying only pack striped tshirts and berets for our french inspired posts. I'm just about to pack my capsule wardrobe, solely consisting of the tricolor.

I hate French jokes. They're crepe.

Skirt: Green mini, H&M
Scarf: Gypsy swirsl, H&M

Little present: If you like shaking your tail feather and getting a bit freaky then listen to this. It's by Boy 8-Bit. Can you figure out what the two samples are?
